Community Memorial Hospital's Cancer Care Center has received the prestigious American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer Outstanding Achievement Award, an accomplishment that shows its commitment to providing high-quality cancer care.
Established in 2004, the CoC Outstanding Achievement Award (OAA) was designed to recognize cancer programs that strive for excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients. A facility receives the OAA following an on-site evaluation by a physician surveyor. It must demonstrate a high level of compliance with seven standards that represent the full scope of the cancer program – committee leadership, data management, clinical services, research, community outreach and quality improvement.
The Commission on Cancer gave the OAA to only 66 U.S. programs (approximately 15 percent of the applicants) as a result of surveys performed in 2007.
"In winning this award, we have joined the ranks of an elite group of cancer programs," said William Bestor, President and CEO of Community Memorial Hospital. "Our Cancer Care Center team is to be commended for this fine achievement."
Since opening in 1993, the Cancer Care Center has offered cutting edge radiation oncology provided by Medical College of Wisconsin physicians. In 2007, physicians from Oncology Alliance began providing medical oncology services. Patients of the Cancer Care Center receive their treatment in one convenient location, resulting in seamless care.
Community Memorial Hospital, which specializes in cardiac care, women's health, cancer care and advanced surgical procedures, is a member of Froedtert & Community Health.
