Wheeling for Healing

Cycling for a Cause

Over 1500 riders came out to cycle for a cause at the 11th annual Wheeling for Healing family bike ride. Saturday, August 9th proved to be the perfect day to bike 32, 15, or 4 miles! In addition to the beautiful weather, a good time was had by all who attended. Thank you to the event’s planning committee, the participants, all the sponsors and the many dedicated volunteers who helped raise over $45,000 for the Cancer Care Center. Dan Needles, WISN Sports Director, was there to start off each ride and hand out the many raffle and door prizes.

Major event sponsors included WISN, Sells Printing, Express News, registration sponsor: Steinhafels, and our first aid sponsor: Oncology Alliance. A huge thank you to the medical staff, and Emery’s for sponsoring the Wheeling for Healing Raffle, which featured a $500 Visa Gift Card, won by George Sorrell, and two Trek Hybrid bicycles won by Chris Koch and Kathy Cornell. A special thank you to Dr. Gregory Van Winkle of Forward! Orthopedics, who was on hand to assess ride-related injuries and answer medical questions from our participants, and Blind Willie who kept us entertained with great music. Emery’s Home Fitness & Bicycle Center assisted with riders with last minute bike tune-ups and fitted riders with helmets.

Over the last eleven years, Wheeling for Healing has raised over $270,000 for the Cancer Care Center! The Foundation would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to everyone who has played a role in this event’s success.
